
Breaking News: Concord was accepted today into the SCAA for 8-man football. This will be for varsity, JV, and middle school football. Starting in the 2024 season, Concord will play Athens, Britton-Deefield, Mendon, Morenci, Pittsford, Lenawee Christian, and Bellevue. Britton-Deerfield, Morenci, Lenawee Christian, and Concord will make up the White Division of the SCAA.

The JV volleyball team was narrowly defeated by Reading on Tuesday night (25-27, 23-25, 25-16). Lilie Vandenburgh was 10/10 serving with 2 aces. She also had 4 digs, 2 kills, and 1 assist. Reagan Mehl was also strong at the service line going 13/14 with 5 aces. Mehl also added 2 digs. Jordyan Metcalf had 4 aces, 5 digs, and 1 kill. Evelyn Goldsmith had 4 aces and 6 assists. Bella Coppernoll had 1 ace, 1 kill, and 1 block. Avery Arbuckle played strong in the front row and contributed 1 kill. Jaylin Knoblett added 2 kills. Macy Sinden had 4 digs and 1 kill. Aryonna Kehle was 3/3 serving with 1 ace and 1 dig. Lucy Otto was 4/4 serving with 1 ace and 1 kill. Gabby Herzberg also added 2 kills. Good job, ladies!

The JV Volleyball team placed 6th out of 8 teams at the Coldwater Tournament on Saturday. They saw a lot of tough competition and were able to compete at a high level. In pool play, they lost to Coldwater (16-25, 19-25) and Loy Norrix (16-25, 10-25), and they defeated Mendon (25-19, 25-17). They were then defeated by Delton Kellogg (23-25, 22-25). Jordyan Metcalf was also spotless at the service line going 9/9 with 2 aces. Other aces for the night were: Lilie Vandenburgh 4, Reagan Mehl 3, and Gabby Herzberg with 1. Leading the team with kills were Avery Arbuckle, Bella Coppernoll, and Gabby Herzberg, with 3 each. Digs for the night were: Jordyan Metcalf 7, Lilie Vandenburgh 6, Macy Sinden 6, Avery Arbuckle 3, Jaylin Knoblett 3, Reagan Mehl 3. Evelyn Goldsmith had 11 assists.

The JV volleyball team brought home a 2nd place trophy at the Homer Invitational on Thursday. The team went undefeated in pool play, beating Springport (25-21, 26-24) and Union City (25-13, 25-16). They then went on to defeat Reading in the semi-finals (25-17, 25-19). They faced Homer in the finals, battling through a thrilling 3-set match (25-22, 18-25, 9-15). Even though they didn't come out victorious, the team showed so much intensity and grit. As a team, they went 164/195 at the service line. Evelyn Goldsmith led the team in aces with 12. Also adding aces were Bella Coppernoll with 9, Lilie Vandenburgh with 3, Aryonna Kehl with 2, and Jordyan Metcalf with 2. Jordyan Metcalf also had 15 digs, while Macy Sinden and Reagan Mehl each had 10 digs. Leading the team in kills was Bella Coppernoll with 11. Other kills for the night were: Gabby Herzberg 9, Avery Arbuckle 6, Evelyn Goldsmith and Lilie Vandenburgh 5, Lucy Otto and Jaylin Knoblett 2. Evelyn Goldsmith had 25 assists. The JV Volleyball team split their tri-meet tonight, defeating Athens (17-25, 25-16, 15-1) and losing to Battle Creek St. Phil (12-25, 18-25). Despite a slow start, the team built momentum as the night went on. Bella Coppernoll was perfect from the service line, going 14/14 with 2 aces. Jordyan Metcalf was 15/19 with 5 aces and Lilie Vandenburgh was 17/18 with 4 aces. Also adding aces were Evelyn Goldsmith, Gabby Herzberg, Jaylin Knoblett, and Reagan Mehl. Jaylin Knoblett had 5 kills and Bella Coppernoll added 4. Macy Sinden led the team in digs with 11. Improvements are being made each match! Keep it up, girls!

Due to the heat advisory, expected heat index, and a plumbing issue that needs to be resolved in the elementary school, we will be running a half day of school tomorrow, Thursday, August 24, 2023. Dismissal tomorrow will be at 11:05

Starting in the spring of 2024, the Big 8 Conference will be charging for spring sports. That being said, I highly recommend that families consider purchasing passes. Admission is $5 per person and that can add up quickly. Purchasing a pass would allow admission to all sporting events, other than MHSAA Tournaments, for the entire school year. Passes can be purchased at the ticket table at home sporting events. You can pay with cash, check, and credit card.


The JV volleyball team battled against some tough teams during their first non-conference matches of the season. They were narrowly defeated by Olivet 14-25, 25-23, 14-16. Then, they lost against a very strong Hanover-Horton team 5-25, 10-25. Reagan Mehl was 12/12 serving with 2 aces, Bella Coppernoll and Lilie Vandenburgh each went 10/10 serving with 1 ace, Jordyan Metcalf was 9/10 with 2 aces, Gabby Herzberg was 3/5 with 1 ace, and Jaylin Knoblett also added 1 ace. Evelyn Goldsmith had 16 assists and Lilie Vandenburgh led the team in kills with 4. The girls played tough defense against these fast-paced teams. Jordyan Metcalf had 5 digs, Lilie Vandenburgh and Reagan Mehl each had 4 digs, and Macy Sinden added 3. Avery Arbuckle had 1 block. Lucy Otto, Aryonna Kehl, and Dakota Miller also played well. Despite the losses, the girls started out their season strong with a lot to be proud of!
