Last night the Girls track team competed against both Quincy and Reading. With 17 events and only 11 girls the Coaches could not have been prouder. As the defending Big 8 Conference Champions from Reading were challenged to the point it came down to the final event. With all most everyone of the girls participating in the maximum 4 events it was a total team effort. There were girls stepping up and doing events they had never done before all in an attempt to get the victory. Field event highlights included Natalee Williams taking second in discus, Hailei Manthei taking second in shot put, Alex Butterfield scoring in both Long Jump and High Jump. The 3200 Meter relay team of Bridgette Holton, Anna Bulko, Skylar Thompson, and Samantha Saenz started the running events off with a big Victory. Then came the 100 meter hurdles where Victoria Strouss and Gabrela Yousif finished second and third. We then had the 800 Meter relay team of Madison Smith, Alex Butterfield, Bridgette and Samantha beat Reading. That was followed by the 1600 meter run where Skylar dominated winning by about 20 seconds and Natalee Williams finished in 5th. Our 400 meter relay team of Victoria, Madison, Sarah Strouss, and Gabby finished third. Then Bridgette and Skylar teamed up in the 400 meter dash to place second and third. That was followed by the 300 hurdles where Victoria and Gabrella placed 4th and fifth. In the 800 Samantha took first and Anna placed 6th. In the 200 Bridgette took third and Alex was close behind in 4th. In the 3200 meter run Samantha and Skylar finished first and second. Then going into the last event the 1600 Meter relay Victoria, Madison, Anna and Natalee all ran their guts out as they tried to finish off the night with a huge victory. While the team ran amazing it just wasn't quite enough and we had to congratulate Reading as they edged us out. All in all it was a great night to run and a night to be proud of. On Friday the team travels to Union City to compete in the Union City Invitational

Last night (4/23) the Varsity softball team traveled to Hanover Horton and lost both games. The first game was 0-8 and the second game was 11-13. CarolAnn Brigham and Bailey Austin each collected a hit in game one.
In game two the Yellowjackets fought back after falling down by six runs in the second inning. The team evened up the things in the bottom of the fifth inning when Camryn Ward drove in 3 runs. We fell short with a hit from the Comets in the top of the seventh and failed to score in the bottom. Billie Weeks added two hits with one being a home run and a double. Ward, Makenize Collier, and Khole Rothenberger each collected a double.
The Yellowjackets travel to Reading tomorrow (4/24) to take on the Rangers for conference play.
The Concord Yellow Jackets watched both game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-2, and 10-1 Loss to the Hanover Horton Comets. The Yellow Jackets struggled to put runs on the board both games and struggled defensively containing the comets. Noah Waldron took the loss on the mound for the Yellow Jackets, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, but struck out 3 in game 1. Dane Funston took the Game 2 loss, allowing 8 runs on 8 hits, pitching 1 2/3 innings. Greg Kettwich led the Jackets offensively going 2 for 4 in game 1, having 2 of the jackets 3 hits. Game 2 Austyn Curtis lead the Jackets with the Jackets only hit. Positive notes is Dane Funston continued his 4 game hit streak. Funston also pitched well despite the outcome. 5 of the 8 hits allowed were infield choppers that just didn't bounce our way. Greg Kettwich made an ESPN top 10 dive in centerfield diving parallel to the ground to deep right center field. Jacob Hoath got some innings on first, stepping up for the team and played tough. Brandon Collier got his first couple innings on the bump as a sophomore and competed! Lastly, Mathew Cooke got his debut in relief and did a stellar job under the circumstances. Concord plays Reading Tuesday at 4:00 in Reading and plan on bouncing back from these tough losses.
