CMS Beginning Band:

The Concord Beginning Band is composed of students who are learning an instrument for the first time. Members will study and perform beginning band literature and be graded based on participation, concert attendance, playing tests, and other assignments. Students will perform at the Winter Band Concert, Spring Band Concert, and during other various performance opportunities.

CMS Advanced Band:

The Concord Middle School Advanced Band is composed of students who are continuing their study of a given instrument. Members will study and perform more advanced band literature and be graded based on participation, concert attendance, playing tests, and other assignments. Students will perform at the Winter Band Concert, Spring Band Concert, and during other various performance opportunities.

CHS Marching & Concert Band:

This course is designed to give the student an enriching and diverse instrumental music education. CHS Band is for high school band members as well as for eighth graders who showed a great deal of musical mastery while in seventh grade. This class provides a number of performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course. Members will study and perform more high school level band literature and be graded based on participation, concert attendance, playing tests, and other assignments. Students will perform at the football games, basketball games, concert and marching band festivals, Winter Band Concert, Spring Band Concert, and during other various performance opportunities.

CHS Honors Band:

This course involves being a member of the normal Concord High School Band and meeting all basic requirements of band membership. In order to earn the honors credit, students must earn at least 13 “honors points” per semester. “Honors points” must come from at least three different activities each semester. Examples of activities that earn you “honors points” include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving the band in a formal leadership or service position
  • Taking private lessons
  • Giving private lessons
  • Attending extra concerts and recitals
  • Performing at Solo and Ensemble Festival
  • Attending a Summer Band Camp
  • Participating in an honor band
  • Participating in a college marching band day
  • Completing musical compositions

Drumming Fundamentals (class offering dependent on enrollment):

Gain a solid foundation in drumming and musicianship with Drumming Fundamentals. The course explores four main topics: —musicianship, drumming technique, rhythm reading, and drum set coordination.

Jazz Band (class offering dependent on enrollment):

This course is designed as a supplemental ensemble to "Marching & Concert Band". Through ensemble rehearsal, individual practice, and a variety of performance opportunities, the student will gain an understanding and appreciation for the great art form of jazz. Emphasis will be placed performance technique, rudimentary improvisational skills, and musicianship. This ensemble is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout this course.

Music Theory & Composition (class offering dependent on enrollment):

This course is for students who wish to gain a better understanding of music and how music works. In Music Theory & Composition, you will come to understand music theory through the study of musical terminology, notation skills, basic composition skills, musical analysis, and aural skills (ear training).
